ISO 3834 is Quality standard for Fusion Welding of Metallic Materials. It sets out what is considered as best practice with regard to the control of welding and welding activities. Until now the standard has largely been ignored, however due the publication of the Construction Product Register (CPR) it is now a mandatory specification which directly affects Structural steel organisations who are now required to conduct all their welding activities as per ISO 3834. One of the biggest impacts to fabricators is the requirement to have access to a Responsible Welding Co-ordinator who advises on the technical aspects of welding activities.
